Letter R Art Activities

Gratefulness and appreciation are two values that I want to impart to my students. The least that I want is to have academic-smart kids who are so self-entitled. No, thank you. Our society has enough of that.

That is why, as early as preschool, I explicitly teach them to be thankful for everything- be it for a service given or gifts received. I also make sure that I’m generous with my heartfelt thank yous.

Aside from expressing my gratitude through words, I also sometimes write notes or give small presents. This way my little learners will have an idea that there are other ways to express gratitude.

Making paper roses is one way. I’ve made tons of paper roses with my students- they were not perfect but it’s the thought that counts anyway. And I’d say it targets a lot of different learning objective in one:

  • Develop fine motor skills
  • Practice following directions
  • Develop patience and perseverance
  • Learn about appreciation

If making paper roses is difficult for you and your child, you may want to try doing R is for Rose: Paper Pasting Activity. It’s easy and cute. And I’m sure whoever will receive will appreciate the effort put into it.
