Letter Y Art Activity
I’ve mentioned many times that I love including eating activities in my lessons. I love it because it’s simple and yummy. Plus the retention is really high because most of the sense are active.
As the students eat, they get to see the food- its color, size (sense of sight); they get to smell the food- pungent, fragrant, fruity (sense of smell); they feel the texture of the food (sense of touch); they hear the crunch as they bite and munch (sense of hearing); and of course, the most obvious, they get to taste the food (sense of taste).
There’s just so much at work when someone’s eating that’s why the retention is higher. Students get to associate what they’re learning and eating based on the sense that is more dominant for them.
And of course, let’s not forget that it’s yummy and fun.
Aside from eating yummy foods, it’s also worth noting that introducing children to novelty objects are equally effective. As in the case of the yo-yo.
Yo-yos are not as popular as it used to be. You’ll rarely see children owning and playing with one. And that makes it interesting for them.
It’s not only interesting but they also require a certain level of skill to play. The challenge will definitely pique your child’s interesting.
But if you can’t find a yo-yo or you and your child’s skills are not ready for it, you may first do the Y is for Yo-yo: Paper Pasting Activity.
