Eggs are staple food in most places. It’s relatively cheap and easily available.
Most children are familiar with it because they’ve already eaten one or a family member had.
Knowing these facts, it is then an obvious choice to use egg as a learning tool.
Using something familiar when learning helps children feel confident and competent. And when they feel these, they tend to exert more effort because they want to feel more successful.
Just like adults, children love activities that make them feel positive about themselves. That’s why it’s very important to begin a lesson using familiar objects- in this case, the humble egg.
Guidelines on How to Teach the Letter Ee:
- Cook an egg with your child. Boiled egg, scrambled, sunny-side up. Choose what’s more familiar. Or if you’re feeling wild, cook all kinds. 😀 Say the word egg out loud, while emphasizing on the beginning sound, /e/, /e/, /e/.

- outline of an egg
- paper cut-outs
- glue
Directions:
- Paste the paper cut-outs on the egg outline. Try to stay within the lines.
Teacher’s Note:
