Learning about the family is an exciting time for preschoolers.

There’s little motivation needed to get the children to talk about their families.

At the same time, it also takes little encouragement for children to work on activities that otherwise they would find tedious such as tracing and writing.

That’s why I make sure that I include these preschool activities in my lesson.

Tracing is a pre-writing skill that children need to work on and master so they can improve their fine motor skills- which will then lead to the actual writing of letters and numbers.

Since the hands and wrists muscles aren’t fully developed yet, tracing can be challenging for them.

For this reason, children must be exposed to other activities that could help them develop their fine motor muscles.

Aside from the typical paper and pencil tasks, there are also other fun activities that we can engage our students in.

Here is a couple of my recommended work for children:

  1. Lacing
  2. Playing with Playdough
  3. Coloring
  4. Using kitchen tongs
  5. Shooting coins
  6. Outdoors activities like scooping, pouring, spraying, and watering

These play/work will fire up your child’s hands and wrists muscles and will have them ready for writing in no time.

And when they’re ready for tracing and writing, I have a couple of free printable that you might want to download and print.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  • Line tracing
  • Letters tracing
  • Shapes Tracing
  • Uppercase letters
  • Lowercase letters
  • Numbers Tracing

Or if you want family-themed tracing worksheets, I also got you covered!

In today’s free preschool printables, I included two levels of tracing worksheets.

One is for tracing lines, and the other one is for tracing words. Just choose the worksheets that best suit your child’s needs. Or best matches your learning objectives.

As always, this free printable set comes in PDF format so they’re easy to download and print.
