Teaching young children how to write numbers can be a challenge, but it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of early education. Over the years, I’ve found that simple and consistent practice makes a big difference. That’s why I’m excited to share a variety of free number tracing worksheets you can use at home or in the classroom.
Whether you’re a parent helping your child get ready for kindergarten or a teacher looking for no-prep activities, these worksheets are designed to make learning easy, fun, and effective.

Free Number Tracing Worksheets
When I first started teaching, I quickly realized that preschoolers need a lot of hands-on practice to master new skills. That’s why I created these free number tracing worksheets. They give young learners the opportunity to trace numbers over and over again, helping them develop confidence and muscle memory.
Each sheet is clean, straightforward, and perfect for daily practice. I like to laminate the pages and let my students use dry-erase markers. That way, they can practice as much as they want without wasting paper.

Trace Numbers 1-10 Worksheets
Starting small is key. When introducing numbers, I always begin with trace numbers 1-10 worksheets. These sheets focus on the basics and help children get familiar with the shapes and strokes of each number.
I often sit beside my students during this activity, guiding their hands if needed. It’s amazing to see how proud they are when they can finally trace the numbers on their own.
Below are two horizontal tracing worksheets that I often use with my little students. So if this is the type of worksheets that your students would like to work on, then just click the link to get your copy.
Tracing Numbers 1-10 Worksheets
In my experience, repetition really helps young learners. So even after they’ve traced 1-10 once, we continue practicing with different tracing numbers 1-10 worksheets.
Sometimes I turn it into a fun game—like timing how fast they can trace all the numbers neatly or letting them choose their favorite colored pencil to make it more exciting. Little tricks like these keep kids motivated.
Next we have vertical tracing worksheets. If this type of worksheets best suit your needs, just click the links below to get your copy.
Writing Numbers 1-20 Worksheets
Once my students are confident with 1-10, we move on to writing numbers 1-20 worksheets. This is when things get a little more challenging.
I always encourage my students to take their time and remind them that making mistakes is part of learning. I also teach them to count out loud while tracing to help with number recognition.
1-50 Number Tracing Practice Worksheets
After mastering 1-20, it’s important to keep the momentum going. 1-50 number tracing practice worksheets give children the extra practice they need to really lock in their number writing skills.
To make this step less overwhelming, I usually break it down into smaller goals. For example, we might focus on 1-25 first before moving on to 26-50. Celebrating small wins along the way keeps the kids excited about learning.

1-100 Number Tracing Practice Worksheets
Finally, for those ready for a bigger challenge, I use 1-100 number tracing practice worksheets. Seeing a whole page filled with numbers can be intimidating at first, but with encouragement, kids can absolutely handle it.
I often share stories of my previous students who started out struggling but eventually mastered all 100 numbers. Sharing real examples helps boost their confidence and shows them that with practice, they can achieve anything.

Number tracing may seem like a small skill, but it lays the foundation for so many future math activities. With consistent practice and a little bit of encouragement, your preschoolers will be writing numbers with ease.
Feel free to download these worksheets and use them as often as you like. And remember, every child learns at their own pace. Be patient, stay positive, and enjoy this special learning journey with your little ones!
