Learn about basic shapes through these preschool printable- Free Shapes Flashcards PDF from The TeachingAunt.
Identifying shapes is a fundamental topic in the preschool curriculum. It is actually one of the first lessons tackled at school.
Most of the time, children come to preschool already knowing the names of the shapes.
This is not surprising because it is basic and easy to teach. That’s why parents start their children early on this subject.
Even though the children can already identify shapes, it is still needed that we review this topic in the classroom.
It is imperative that we provide different activities to help our preschool students master this lesson.
We also need to make sure that we give them varied tasks so they’ll be motivated to learn the topic. Otherwise you’ll risk them getting bored.
And that’s the last thing you want to happen in a preschool classroom.
Here are a couple of my favourite shapes activities:
- Touch the shapes
- Hopscotch shapes
- Shape Songs
- Baking using shapes cookie cutters
- Watching videos with shape characters
- Art Activities
- drawing figures using shapes
The activities mentioned above are just a few of the things that you can do with your students.
Try to see what your students like to do collectively so you can decide on the best task to work on as a group.
However, it is also advisable to come up with unique or new activities to keep them excited and challenged.
Aside from fun activities, our instructional materials also matter. That’s why I always make it a point to make beautiful materials about different topics.
