I love teaching numbers. And my students love learning them. There are just so many ways to teach numbers. And since I have been teaching for quite some time now, I already have my go-to activities.

First off, I start the lesson with a song or a story. Nothing beats an upbeat song with accompanying actions to get the children going. It’s a hassle free activity. You may do it with a music player or just acapella.

A good storytelling is also a wonderful lesson starter. And the more interactive the storytelling is, the better.

In my classroom, you’ll often see my students up and about during storytelling time. I always make sure to engage them and keep them involved. I ask them to count with me, repeat story lines, do some actions and a whole lot more!

And once the children are so into it, and I feel that they are ready for more formal instruction, then that’s the time we delve more into the topic.

However, I still make sure that they learn in a fun way. And so I design games and other interactive activities to help them learn the concepts further.

One day we’re skipping while counting, the next day they’re painting!

Truly, there are so many fun ways to teach numbers!

Uhmmm… So when do I use flashcards?

Simple. Right from the beginning. 🙂

At the beginning of the school year, I already have numbers flashcards displayed in the classroom. These flashcards are strategically placed for maximum benefit.

Tips for Displaying Numbers Flashcards

  • Post them at children’s eye level
  • Display on corners with high traffic
  • Laminate for longer usage
  • If possible, change the flashcards according to your theme. This way children are always excited to check out the display cards.

There you go! Those are my tips for teaching the numbers!

Now, let me share with you another set of numbers flashcards 1-20.

Features of these number wall cards:

  1. Big numeral in big black bold font on the left side so children can see clearly
  2. Cute apple clip arts as counters
  3. Number words at the bottom to help children associate numerals with written words

Use of these numbers flashcards may help target the following learning objectives:

  • Recognise numbers
  • Count objects
  • Recognise number words
  • Display one-to-one correspondence
  • Sequence numbers

These numbers flashcards are the perfect complement to your preschool math lesson. And the good news is The Teaching Aunt also made a simple educational video about counting numbers. Plus, it has a quiz at the end of the video to check your child’s understanding.

Nice, right?
