Your child will love learning about th eletter O with this cute and east preschool craft- O is for Ostrich Art and Craft Activity!

We’ve just recently gone on a field trip to the zoo. And my preschoolers had a blast seeing different animals.
The one that specially caught their attention was the ostrich. They were amazed by its size and its appearance.
Which made me realise that we hardly talk about this flightless bird in the classroom. Well, I might have mentioned it one or two times but we never really discussed about it in-depth.
So during our field trip (after seeing their interest in the giant bird), I encouraged them to ask the zoo keeper about ostriches.
Here are a couple of questions and observations that my students posted:
- “The ostrich has long lashes like my mommy.”
- “Are they older than chickens?”
- “Are the cousins with chickens?”
- “Can we eat ostriches?”
- “ Can we ride ostriches?”
- “Can it fly as high as an airplane?”
- “What does it eat?”
- “The ostrich has long legs like my daddy.”
- “The ostrich is fatter than chicken.”
- “The ostrich cannot fly because it’s big, fat and heavy.”
As you can tell, it was such a fun and educational trip to the zoo. And as an adult, I learned a lot of new things about ostriches that I otherwise would not have learned on my own.
That’s why I love going on field trips with my preschoolers. I love seeing the world through their eyes. It’s just refreshing to have so much curiosity.
Since my little ones were intrigued by ostriches, I decided to come up with an easy art activity to extend their learning to other areas.
This ostrich alphabet craft targets the following learning objectives:
- Master the letter O through a visual cue (image of an ostrich) and an auditory cue (beginning sound of the word ostrich)
- Develop fine motor skills
- Foster creativity and imagination
