Letter Q Art and Craft

I promote dramatic play in the classroom. As a preschool teacher, I always make sure that each learning corner is fresh and updated regularly. This is to ensure children’s engagement.

And since I have been teaching for more than a decade now, I have witnessed a lot of dramatic play with different characters and settings.

A recurring theme is family, where students play mom, dad, children- and distant relatives. No kidding!

Another recurring theme is royalty. My students just love playing kings and queens. Sometimes girls want to play kings and I let them.

There was even a time when I heard one say, “I’m going to be Khaleesi.” (Hmmm… I don’t know how I feel about that- a preschooler watching Games of Thrones. Hopefully she just knows the character name but not really the entire show.)

And then there was a boy who wanted to put on the unicorn headband. I let him.

The topic about gender sensitivity and equality are quite popular more than ever. There are so many point of views and opinions regarding this matter.

But in my class, I keep it simple. There are boys and girls. And they can play with any toys and role play any character as long as they abide by the classroom rules. That simple.

Speaking of royalty, since my preschoolers love playing kings and queens, I prepared a queen-themed art and craft for them.

Alphabet Craft for Letter Qq

This alphabet craft targets the following learning objectives:

  • Master the letter Q through a visual cue (image of a queen) and an auditory cue (beginning sound of the word queen)
