Help your child write a card with these Free Valentine’s Day Card Templates from The Teaching Aunt.
Valentine’s Day is not complete without sending cards to your loved ones.
And to be honest, it is exciting to receive a card from your special someone. Don’t you agree?
That’s why I encourage my preschool students to write cards for their families and friends.
Most of the time, I just give them blank sheets of paper and coloring materials. Then I just let them do their magic.

Cards for Valentine’s Day

Sometimes I provide them with a card template so they can focus on the written message inside the card.
And we know that it can be challenging for some children to spell and write.
As a preschool teacher, I tell my students to be confident as they write their letters. I don’t go around correcting every word. Not unless they ask me to.
As much as possible, I praise them for their efforts, and I give them feedback on how they used what they know of the letter sounds to spell words.

How To Help Children Spell and Write a Valentine’s Day Card
- Provide a spelling guide. Write on the board the common words that they’ll be using in their messages that are specific to the occasion (ex. Valentine’s, love, miss, you, and thank you- these are common Valentine-themed words.)
- Review alphabet sounds. Do a quick review of the letters and their sound.
- Practice segmenting with students. Tell the students to write each letter they hear in the word they want to spell.
- Accept invented spelling if the main goal of the activity is to write a card. It builds children’s confidence because they see it as an accomplishment that they were able to write a letter with minimal help and correction.
- Offer your help when needed.
Now that your child knows the basics of writing a message, I’ll share my cute Valentine-themed card templates.
